It is Germany’s largest ferry port on the Baltic Sea with connections to Sweden, Finland, Russia, Latvia and Estonia. A very popular area for leisure boat activities in the summer only as it gets very cold and sometimes freezes over. In this particular case I combined two different charts using a classic B&W chart from the 1950′s. The chart shows the southern end of Lübecker bay including Neustadt, Travemünde, Wishmar Bucht , the Islands of Poel & Wustrow and inset is a more detailed chart of Travemünde. The framing is done in a black frame with charcoal surround mount on a black background and has inbuilt surround lighting which shows up the relief work and contours of the depth. Whitsunday islands
A complex group of islands, 74 in all, off the east coast of Australia. Originally named by Captain Cook as they were discovered on Whitsunday but owing to an error in time keeping it was in fact Whitmonday. The 3D chart was commissioned by sailor as a memento of a cruising holiday that he and his family had in the Whitsunday Islands. As with most islands there are many contours close to the shore which is good for dramatic effect in the 3D chart , however this is a lot of work in the making ! The islands are very gaged which is intricate work but the end result speaks for itself. The numerous islands are closely bunched together therefore many narrow but deep channels . Cruising heaven! The frame in this case is Limed white with a cotton white surround mount on an aqua blue background, the combination of frame colours and mounts has been carefully chosen to compliment the 3D chart . In this case the end result is a fresh nautical feel that will compliment any environment and will always stand out and be appreciated for years to come.

Read more »I would like to share a story with you. I received an email from Joao in Rio De Janerio, he read about my work on the VOR website and wanted to commission a piece for his friends birthday. Joao had never seen my work before , I prepared the quote for “Ilha Grande Bay” including the usual pdf showing the chart and content. He was happy to proceed , the commission was completed with a special note hand written under the chart and shipped it to Brazil. Now bear in mind , Joao has never seen a piece in the flesh, its not cheap and I am supplying this from the other side of the world 5000 miles away. Here is the reply that I got back from Joao: Dear Bobby, I have to share this with you. I received your work on the eve of My Friend’s birthday. This year he didn’t do any party because a member of his family is very ill. But his wife and kids prepared a little surprise for him for dinner. They all got presents for him and surprised him when he got home from work. At the end, they realized there was this big box there, with a card from us, that we had delivered during the day, but didn’t warn them about it. When they opened he said: – My family, I appreciate all your presents and effort but João has beaten you all. This is THE coolest gift I have ever received. Of course they all agreed. Once again, thank you very much for your good work and effort to send me it on time. I did spread the word and explained everything about you and your work. I hope you hear back from other people in Brazil. All the …
