This chart features the three Aran Islands and also the Co. Clare villages of Liscannor and Doolin.
The Aran Islands are a group of three islands located on the west coast of Ireland at the mouth of Galway Bay. From west to east the islands are: Inishmore the largest; Inishmaan the second-largest; and Inisheer the smallest. Between the three islands there are approx. 1,200 inhabitants.
Inishmore, being the largest island has a busy tourist industry. Its main village is Kilronan, which is home to the island’s ferry port. On the west side of the island is the prehistoric fort of Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus) It is a popular tourist attraction and is thought to date from the Iron Age.
On the mainland can be seen the villages of Liscannor and Doolin. In between the two are the world-famous Cliffs of Moher. The cliffs rank amongst the top-visited tourist sites in Ireland.
