This chart features a beautifully scenic part of Co. Cork and Co. Kerry, namely the Iveragh Peninsula and the Beara Peninsula. Part of the famous Ring of Kerry route is included. On the northern part of the chart is Ballinskelligs village. Moving eastwards, the villages of Waterville and Caherdaniel can be seen. Kenmare Bay separates the two peninsulas.
To the south of Kenmare Bay is the Beara Peninsula. Dursey Island lies at the southwestern tip of the Beara Peninsula. The island is separated from the mainland by a narrow stretch of water called Dursey Sound which has a very strong tidal race, with the submerged Flag Rock close to the centre of the channel. The island is connected to the mainland by Ireland’s only cable car. There is a detailed insert on the chart of Dursey and its location relative to the mainland.
