I was commissioned to create an artwork for the interior of a new build Fairline Squadron 78 Motor Yacht. The client approached me at the Southampton boat show, he was looking for a piece of art that would complement the interior which I might add was finished and personalised to a very high standard. The owner had two areas in mind, Cap D’Antibes or the Bonaficio Strait which were his favorite cruising grounds in the Mediterranean. In the end he decided on the Bonifacio Strait using a black & white chart. Anyone familiar with the area will know that it is spectacular. The rocks are numerous, the islands off Sardinia are rugged and fascinating. Nestled in the NE corner is the world famous port of Puerto Cervo which is my client’s favourite port of call. I worked closely with the client and the boat builders to ensure that the size and presentation was in keeping with the interior of the main cabin. Surround lighting was a key feature, supply power was a relatively easy task – I use LED lighting that can run on 12Vdc.
The boat was on display at the London Boat show in January so I took the opportunity to go and see the end result. I was very impressed with the boat, it is not very often that you will see a boat presented with all of the clients “touches”. The attention to detail was extraordinary, every last detail including the napkins and the table ware was in keeping with a super yacht and an owner who has good taste.Watching others at the show looking around the boat it became very evident that the 3D chart was in keeping with its surroundings , it was noticed & remarked on by all! I was proud of the fact that my work is worthy of such a setting.
