Antigua is located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. The open Atlantic Ocean lies to the north and east. The shorelines are greatly indented with beaches, lagoons and natural harbours. The island is rimmed by reefs an shoals. The capital is St. John’s and is located at St. John’s Harbour on the northwest coast. The north-east coast in particular is very rugged which makes for very intricate 3d work in the making of this chart.
Of historical interest on this chart is the Admiralty Stamp which states “Surveyed by Captain E. Barnett RN 1848, with additions by J. Parsons Master RN. 1863. The chart is set on a golden background and has the benefit of surround lighting to enhance the 3d features. It has a grey mount and a black frame.
