Galway Bay and the Aran Islands on the west coast of Ireland are the focus of this chart. The Connemara coastline that is shown stretches along from Lettermullan to Spiddal and includes Lettermore, Carraroe, Rossaveal, Inverin and Cathair.

The main feature of the chart are the Aran Islands. From west to east the islands are: Inishmore – the largest; Inishmaan – the second largest and Inisheer – the smallest. Between the three islands there are approx. 1,200 inhabitants. Inishmore, being the largest island has a busy tourist industry. Its main village is Kilronan, which is home to the island’s ferry port. On the west side of the island is the prehistoric fort of Dun Aengus. It is a popular tourist attraction and is thought to date from the Iron Age.
