This is one of several 3d charts we have created for the city of Auckland and surrounding area. Auckland lies in the Hauraki Gulf on New Zealand’s North Island. On this chart, Auckland can be seen in the south-west corner. Framing the bay area are Rangitoto Island and Motutapu Island on the south side. On the northern side are Whangaparoa, Gulf Harbour and Shakespear Regional Park. Off-shore to the east is Tiritiri Matangi Island. Rangitoto is a volcanic island and is one of the iconic landmarks of this area. It is linked by a causeway to Mototapu Island.
The Hauraki Gulf is part of the Pacific Ocean, which it joins to the north and east. It is largely protected from the Pacific by Great Barrier Island and Little Barrier Island to the north, and by the 80km long Coromandel Peninsula to the east.
A classic black and white archive chart was chosen for this piece. It is framed in black with a black background also and it features a charcoal mount.
