The extremely remote location of the Azores, or Açores to give its Portuguese name, made this a very interesting commission. Composing of nine volcanic islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, this archipelago is one of the few unspoilt paradises in the world.

This piece incorporates all nine islands, namely; Corvo and Flores to the west; Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico and Faial in the centre; and Sao Miguel and Santa Maria to the east.

Note how the chart drifts over the edge in two places, adding an interesting artistic feature. The combination of surround lighting and classic black frame enhances the subtle aesthetic of the finished work.
