One of the most striking features of this chart is its beautiful colouring. The soft tones of the various sea-depths, reefs, islands and landmasses work together in close harmony. Add to that many long hours of delicate cutting, layering and assembly. Then top it off with surround lighting, perfectly chosen mount and frame, and the finished result is simply stunning.

Central in the chart is the island of Bahrain which is connected to Saudi Arabia by the King Fahd Causeway via the smaller island of Um Al Nassan. Just as in structural engineering, long bridge expanses are difficult to construct in 3D relief work. It takes a steady hand and exact concentration to cut such a fragile piece.  Reefs, sandbanks and varying sea depths add to the complexity of this chart.
