Barbados lies in the North Atlantic Ocean. Despite this, the island is commonly considered to be a Caribbean island and as such it is a major tourist destination. It is the easternmost island of the Lesser Antilles and it is situated to the east of the other West Indies Islands. The capital of the island is Bridgetown which is in the south-west. The other main towns shown are Holetown, Speightstown, Diamond Valley Charnocks and Oistins. The island measures 34km long by 23km wide. Barbados’ nearest neighbour is the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines which is situated about 170km to the west and is an island of similar shape and size.
