The Superyacht Cup 2012 took place in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The four-day regatta was a superb event held immediately preceding the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. Latitude Kinsale was honoured to be commissioned to create this piece as the overall winner’s prize.
The original of this black and white chart by Captain Sheringham dates from 1851. It extends from Milford on Sea to Portsmouth and includes The Solent and all of the Isle of Wight. It is a very atttractive chart and includes artistic impressions of local landmarks. There is lovely 3D detailing which is enhanced by surround lighting.
The Solent divides the mainland from the Isle of Wight. It is a major shipping route for passenger, freight and military vessels. It is also an important recreational area for yachting and hosts Cowes Week annually.
The Isle Of Wight is probably the most recognisable island shape in the world, probably because of its popularity as a recreational area, being so close to London. The Solent, with some treacherous areas like the Needles channel and the various banks are the subject of many tales and adventures.
