Māhia Peninsula ((Maori: Māhia or Te Māhia) is located on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, in the Hawke’s Bay region, between the towns of Wairoa and Gisborne. The peninsula is 21.7 km long and 11.3 km wide. Its highest point is Rahuimokairoa, 397 metres above sea level. The peninsula was once an island, but now a tombolo joins it to the North Island. Rocket Lab has set up its Launch Complex 1 close to Ahuriri Point at the southern tip of the peninsula to launch its Electron rocket.

The chart also includes Portland Island, also called Waikawa is a small island off the southern tip of the Māhia Peninsula. It is used for sheep farming. The area of the island fluctuates rapidly between high and low tides due to a shelf of rocks surrounding the east, north and west coast of the island.
