This piece was requested by a couple who spent their honeymoon on the paradise islands of the Maldives. It is a great honour to receive a commission to commemorate a couple’s honeymoon destination. It is an occasion that Latitude Kinsale is always delighted to be a part of.
The physical layout of the Maldive islands determine the sleek and slender look of this work. On the left-hand side we allow the compass rose to float over the edge. This is a feature that works particularly well with this chart as it allows for an aesthetic diversion to the symmetrical layout of the islands.
Maldives is an archipelago situated in the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India. The chain of 26 atolls rely mainly on the fishing and tourism industry. The capital and largest city is Malé. An interesting fact about the Maldives is that it is the lowest country in the world with average ground levels at only 1.5 metres above sea level. Because of this, the islands are at high risk of being submerged due to rising sea levels.
