The Bronx is a borough of New York City, coextensive with Bronx County, in the U.S. state of New York. It is south of Westchester County; north and east of the New York City borough of Manhattan, across the Harlem River and north of the New York City borough of Queens, across the East River.
East River, navigable tidal strait linking Upper New York Bay with Long Island Sound in New York. It separates Manhattan Island from Brooklyn and Queens. About 26 km long and 200 to 1200 metres wide, it connects with the Hudson River via the Harlem River and Spuyten Duyvil Creek at the north end of Manhattan Island.
