This finished work is certainly a statement piece. The classic NOAA archive chart has a historical look and feel. It forms a visual identity that is in sharp contrast to the typical images of New York’s famous skyline and landmarks that we are used to seeing.

The Hudson River makes a dramatic divide as it cuts a deep channel right through the chart, making its border between Manhattan and West New York. Likewise, the Arthur Kill frames Staten Island to the west, and the East River makes its way as far as the location of La Guardia airport.

The 3D layering relief detail is concentrated on the Lower Bay area and its impact is accentuated by the addition of surround lighting. The black mount and brushed silver frame were a perfect choice for the colour tones of the chart.
