The focal point for this commission is the stretch of beaches running either side of Quonochontaug in the district of Charlestown, Rhode Island. Quonochontaug beach is located on a narrow stretch of land between the salt pond of the same name and the Block Island Sound. On the left-hand boundary of the chart is the Pawcatuck River which divides Connecticut and Rhode Island. On the opposite side lies the Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge.

The chart’s orientation is landscape which highlights the long east-west stretches of Charlestown’s beaches that are frequently described as “the best kept secret in Rhode Island”. The clever mount detail and use of surround lighting makes this piece come alive.
