Bassin d’Arcachon is a shallow, north‑pointing triangular tidal lagoon on France’s Atlantic coast, shaped by shifting sandbanks, oyster beds, and pine‑lined shores. It opens to the ocean through the 3‑km channel of Les Passes between Cap Ferret and Arcachon. Arès marks the north shore, Andernos‑les‑Bains the northeast, while the Dune of Pilat rises just south of the inlet and L’Île aux Oiseaux (Isle of the Birds) sits at the basin’s centre.
