Cape Horn, at the southern tip of Chile’s Tierra del Fuego archipelago, rises above fierce seas where the Atlantic and Pacific meet. It is encircled by remote islands—Isla Hornos, Wollaston, Hermite, and Diego Ramírez—a maze of rugged headlands, kelp‑lined channels, and legendary storm‑lashed waters feared and revered by mariners.
The chart shows the Wollaston Islands—Wollaston, Grevy, Bayly, and Freycinet—and the Hermite Islands, including Herschel, Deceit, and Hornos, home of Cape Horn, along with the adjacent portion of Hoste Island.
An unusual feature is the inclusion of the land elevations, which show how a sailor would see the entrance to the harbour in their approach from the sea.
