The Scheldt river flows through Northern France, western Belgium and south-west Holland. This chart features the western Scheldt or the Westerschelde estuary as it is commonly known. It is a navigable waterway and an important shipping route. Antwerp is the largest city on the river and is shown on the right hand side of this chart. After Rotterdam, Antwerp is Europe’s largest sea-port. This chart was commissioned for a customer who’s father piloted ships to Antwerp. The choice of a classic black and white archive chart was in keeping with the personal and historical connection.

Ghent is the other city shown and can be seen at the mid-point at the bottom of the chart. It is located to the south-west of Antwerp and lies at the meeting point of the Scheldt and Leie rivers. It is in the Flemish region of Belgium. In collaboration with our client, we opted for a gold background, combined with a black mount and a gloss black frame. Surround lighting is built into the frame.
